The Righa Royal Hotel in Osaka is located next to a convention center, but there is not much else in the area. There is an expensive shopping arcade in the basement of the hotel, but otherwise you will have to take a taxi to do anything. The hotel itself is attractive and comfortable, and staff are helpful. One curious aspect of Japan is that public wifi is rarely available in hotels, restaurants or coffee shops. Guests at the Righa access the internet in their rooms using DSL. The additional charge is substantial. You will have trouble accessing the internet using a smart phone.
HyungWook from Seoul, Korea
This hotel definitely exceeded my expectations. Not only was the room luxurious and stocked with anything I might need, the whole staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I made frequent use of the business center, and the concierge was always happy to help whether I was looking for "Western-style breakfast" or a map of Kyoto. The shuttle between the hotel and Osaka station ran every few minutes and was a vital part of local travel. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Osaka.
